The Old Blue Line - A Joanna Brady Novella

The Old Blue Line – A Joanna Brady Novella – June 22, 2014

It has become apparent to me that some folks who read the blog are not in the newsletter list, and some people in the newsletter list do not read the blog.  As a result this week’s blog is a combo one–blog and newsletter blast both.

In March, during the Tucson Festival of Books, I was signing a man’s book when he asked a fateful question:  “When are we going to be able to read something from Butch Dixon?  After all, he’s a writer, too.”  I told him I had no idea.

A few days later, someone who had been through a particularly painful breakup, asked me if I could knock off his ex in the next book.  I told him sorry, the next book was already written.

And then, sitting on the patio in Tucson a day or so later, those two ideas came together and smacked me in the head!  The result?  The Old Blue Line, written by J.A. Jance AND Butch Dixon.  This is not the beginning of writing by committee, but it’s close.  It turns out, Butch told me the story.  I just wrote it down.

The Old Blue Line goes on sale June 17.  It is a novella!!  Please do not write to bawl me out because it is TOO short.  Novellas ARE short.  They’re one short step up from a short story.

Novellas are sold primarily as E-books.  However, I know there is a big part of what my webmistress calls “MY” demographic that does not do e-books–on a bet.  For my dead tree readers, there will be print copies available July 22, but you will need to be VERY firm with your local bookseller in order to get them to special order it.  I don’t see this as something that will be routinely stocked by brick-and-mortar book stores.

Now’s the time for book mark requests for The Old Blue Line, Remains of Innocence, and After the Fire–in case you missed that one. Please send BUSINESS SIZED!!! SASES to J.A. Jance, P.O. Box 766, Bellevue, WA 98009.

Please excuse all the Caps.  They are provided for emphasis only.  I am not yelling.

Oh, and have a great summer.  It’s wonderful to be back on the back porch, watching out for the blasted heron.

  1. I’m so glad we will be able to connect and learn more about Butch, thanks for writing more about him!
I love my paper books but I will go ahead and order ebook so I know that I will have it.
Thanks for always sharing with us and you have a blessed weekend!

  2. I have been enjoying all of your books and will get them even if they are short. Have a wonderful summer. I imagine that you have the next book or two lined up ready to put onto paper ( or computer) already. Thanks so much for writing such interesting books that we think of your characters as real people and not characters in a book.

  3. I love all your books. I listen to audio book so I can exercise, drive and get house work done with sheer enjoyment. My bucket list is to get to Bisbee, AZ. Thanks, can’t wait for the new one. I’m always trying to get others to know your books.

    Fondly,

  4. Love all your novels, but your Joanna Brady novels are my very favorite! I would love to read the Butch Dixon novellas … and I hate to be ignorant, but what is a “book mark request”? Thought I’d better ask before I send the SASE!

  5. I offer autographed books marks. You tell me which bookmarks you’re ordering when you send your request. The novellas, including The Old Blue Line, are ordered either on line or through your local bookseller.

  6. Sooo glad you did the blog/email blast since I forget to check the blog. I preordered the book, and read it the first day it was out! Loved the story and the whole idea of it! Kudos, here’s to more novellas in the future! (I love my ebooks!)
