Nine Plumbers Plubming

I’m sure you’ve all heard about those nine drummers drumming. Well, this has been a solid week of nine plumbers plumbing. (I think that’s the total. One was here for so long we offered him a bedroom!)

After our water leak, the first plumber came by and fixed the first of the leaky connections, but as a result the hot water went bye-bye for several days. Anyone for cold showers in Washington in September?

There were several corroded connections that had to be replaced. And those tall faucets for those fancy bowl type sinks? Those are pretty hard to come by at the moment, too.

We now have hot water. Someone is coming to install in filtration system that should prevent our having the same kinds of issues in the future. But as I was out walking and thinking about workmen coming and going, a thought came to me, and it’s this. I need to say thank you to my readers.

When I’m writing books, I’m telling stories. I’m not thinking about how the end recipient is going to receive that story—whether they’ll like it or hate it.

But the same thing is true on this end, as well. When you order a book online or read one from a library or buy one from a bookstore, you’re making it possible for me to hire all those plumbing plumbers.

And that’s what I’m saying thank you for today—the blessing of hot water and non-leaky faucets.

  1. I had been undecided on buying the new Beau book. After all, he’s my favorite. But I’ve spent more money on books than I should have this year and decided to wait for the library to get it.

After reading this blog and knowing how much plumbers charge, I’ve changed my mind. Am ordering a copy today.

  2. I know what you mean. When my husband passed in May 2022 all the fix it stuff fell in my lap. Bob always found away to temporarily resolve our household issues saving us money in our AZ home of 20+ years. Thank heavens my grown son lives with me and he made sure we were replacing and updating our fixtures. You know from experience the water in AZ is hard. We replaced the hot water heater, got a salt system to resolve hard water issue, washer dryer, refrigerator, kitchen faucet, 2 toilets, and bathroom fixtures. I also had the pool cleaned and renovated in May. Haven’t been able to use heater for spa because as we recently discovered, the plumber used too much pipe dope which plugged the gas line since May. At least I’ve learned how to deal with contractors. My BS indicator needed adjustment but works just fine now. BTW still enjoy your books and look forward to your new releases. Thank you for introducing this East coast gal to AZ. I’m your Mesa library gal from so long ago. Stage 4 Colon Cancer 9 year survivor with a colostomy. Yes I’m a “bag lady” of a different type! Thank you for being you, Judy!

  3. I just finished your latest book. I absolutely loved the quilting connection. My husband enjoyed it too. Everything about quilting was spot on. We have enjoyed your books for years

  4. So sweet and genuine you are! I truly enjoy your blog posts, no matter the topic. This one makes me appreciate your books all the more.

  5. Good Morning!

I so enjoy your books–I’ve read all your books, actually own most of them, and am in the middle your latest book. Thank you!

I love how you weave a good story with today’s social issues. I work for Mental Health and you are right on target. I share your books with three of my children. My eldest daughter is the art director for the University of Washington in Seattle press but lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She prefers to listen to your books on audiobook while she works. My son, who is a police lieutenant here in Athens, Georgia is awaiting the latest J.P. Beaumont book but he has to wait until I’m finished. My eldest adopted daughter is also in line waiting for that book. We enjoy all your stories.

    Thank you so much!

  6. Here’s hoping you don’t see another plumber for many years, and all those books ordered online, read from a library or bought from a bookstore make it possible to enjoy better things. Of course, hot water is definitely a ‘better thing’.

    Blessings to you and Bill.

  7. Thank you for your books! I preorder so it’s on my Kindle when it’s released. I loved the developing relationship between Beau and his grandson in Den of Iniquity.

  8. I enjoyed all of your books . And I’m glad you have your hot water restored . You have a gift for writing , and it has brought fun and interest to me . Thank-you for writing. Your devoted fan , Corky Mussett

  9. I’m glad that a reader can provide you what you need. You are providing me what I need, my brain entertained. And you do it so well, every night. So, thank you for what you do for me!

  10. You’re very welcome! Glad to be a small part of your lives!
FYI…I have 6 sons and 2 daughters and always hoped they would go into helping professions, you know – plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc. Well, almost happened. One son is an electrician, one a car mechanic, the daughters went into education, 3 other sons are involved in computers, and the youngest son is a flight attendant, so each in their own ways are helpers!

  11. How the importance of things like hot water, that we take for granted, comes home to us when we have to do without them for a few days, eh? Like in the winter when my house got really chilly because the new thermostat put in by the security company was defective, and nobody was available to fix it until the next week. And yes, I’m glad my constant reading and re-reading of your stories helps pay the plumbers!

  12. Glad you have your plumbing fixed! It’s not fun for sure. Beau’s latest read is the best yet. Just couldn’t put it down. Thanks for providing such great reads!! Love the addition of a relationship between Beau and his grandson!! Keep up the good work and keep on walking. I’m up to 40,000 steps and thanks to you I’ll keep on “trucking”.

  13. OH MY! We’re running in a parallel universe, Judy! After ALL SUMMER of good weather and lots of contractors in and out, there were still “odds and ends” that kept ne from crossing things OFF my list. The day after Labor Day I once again left polite messages for 1) the painter, 2) the door guy, 3) the general contractor, and 4) the floor installer, encouraging them to come “finish up” before the rains came (I’m in Pacifuc county, WA). Long story short, they all showed up last Saturday, and two were here until 8:30 PM, AND it was raining! LOL But I’m grateful—they all agreed to work on a weekend— not a common thing!

  14. You are welcome, JA. I’m so happy such an easy task (reading your books) can make me feel useful when nowadays it seems that, as far as the way things are going in the USA, I’m so helpless to strike out for the good. And you are the good. <3

  15. Plumbers are at times necessary evils, but they certainly make things easier.

Glad things are getting back to normal.

  16. You are most welcome. However, we fans also thank you that you keep on writing. I look forward to reading your books. Den of Inequity brought back lots of memories of past Beaumont books.

  17. I read your blogs. You must have told us about Den of Iniquity early on. I put it on my hold list. Now it is out for sale. Surprise that I must have received the first or near first hold of this book from my library ! It is a great read and I am enjoying this mystery. I will continue to read blogs for other soon to be marketed stories of yours. BTW, I own 17 of your novels . Thanks

  18. Laughing my a__ off (you all can fill in the blanks) good one JA…….your Northern Arizona Stalker….. miss you….. love Dann

  19. You are so welcome. BUT I think we owe you a lot more for all the hours and hours of entertainment and joy you have given us. My sister in Seattle would not recommend a cold shower in September 🙂

  20. Happy to support the cause. I buy as many books as I can. I was surprised to see that your newest book was already discounted on Audible. I feel like I should send you the difference as the read is well worth it.
I’m writing this while waiting to board a plane to Marana, AZ. I was going to save the book for the flight but couldn’t wait and started it Wednesday and finished it Thursday. Just loaded a re-read/listen to.
Wednesday when I left work I was wearing my computer glasses and didn’t notice till I was on the freeway. Driving with my computer glasses gives me a headache. When I got home I couldn’t find my distance glasses and thought I left them at work. Thursday morning my husband found them in the street run over and crushed. Luckily I found an old pair for my trip and hurried off to Costco for an exam and to order a new pair of progressive driving glasses. They will be waiting for me when I get home in 10 days.
I won’t be much driving much in Marana and my old glasses will be good enough to see to keep the my daughters dogs away from snakes and stray chollos.
