It’s half way through week two of the Moving Target tour and I am thrilled to let you know that, thanks to those of you who went out and bought the book during that first critical week, Moving Target will debut at #10 on the New York Times list. At Warren Drug where I grew up, there was always a rack display of the books on the NYTimes list, but little did I imagine back then, that one day some of my books would qualify.
By the way, this is week two of the tour. I will be back in Tucson in time for the Tucson Festival of Books on the 15th and 16th of March. Since the tour kicked off officially on February 18, that means I’ll be on tour for almost a complete month. At an event this week, one of the ladies was very persistent in trying to figure out where I spend MOST of my time, Arizona or Washington state. We try to split it 50/50. But if you take the two months a year when I’m literally living out of a suitcase, that means five months in each place and two months when I’m from nowhere and everywhere.
The tour has been gratifying and well received. Last night in Tacoma, I met a young woman, a wannabe writer, who really reminded me of. . . well . . . a much younger me. Ashlyn is slender, fairly tall, wears glasses, wants to write. She was waiting in the center of the front row when I arrived at the library forty-five minutes early, and she was so flustered at the idea of meeting me, that she could barely speak. I hope I encouraged her to live her dream. I’ve been able to do that for the last thirty years and it’s pretty wonderful.
I’m sitting in my writing chair in Seattle. The clothes dryer is running. When it finishes the clothing will be going back into the suitcase, not in the closet. Bella and Bill are in Tucson. I’m sure they miss me and I certainly miss them, but as I told Ashlyn last night, writing the books is only part of the job. Getting out and helping sell them is part of it, too.
And that’s the job I’m doing right now. Selling books. I’m grateful for the people I see on the road. I’m grateful for my fans.
Oops. The dryer just went off. Gotta go!
PS I need to add one more thing. The fact that I forgot this, is a sign that I’m more than a little distracted at the moment.
To begin with, let me just say that I HATE the word door-busters. That being said, I’m about to use the term anyway. Today, Amazon is offering a “door-buster” sale on the e-book version of Joanna Brady, #5, Skeleton Canyon. For those of you who have dead tree versions of that title, this may be of no interest to you. After all, you already have your copy, and chances are, it’s already signed. You’re still not off the hook, however. Skeleton Canyon Deal of the Day
Supposing you’ve been telling your best pal down at the bar that he ought to give my books a try. Or maybe your Aunt Louise has never read any of my books, either, but she just got her new iPad and hasn’t added any books to it yet. Now’s the time for both of them to test drive a Joanna Brady book for just $1.99. Such a deal!!! The thing is, I know something about those “I’ll just try one,” folks. They will be WRONG! For years, people have told me that reading my books is like eating Fritos–you can’t read just one. With any kind of luck, that $1.99 book will turn your drinking buddy and your aging Aunty into devoted readers, too.
Okie dokie. The time for writing this blog is OVER! The clothes are out of the dryer. It’s time to hit the shower, wash and iron my hair, and hit the road!
Hope to see you along the way.
