{"id":52,"date":"2013-01-04T22:04:18","date_gmt":"2013-01-04T22:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jajance.wordpress.com\/?p=52"},"modified":"2013-01-04T22:04:18","modified_gmt":"2013-01-04T22:04:18","slug":"a-g-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/2013\/01\/04\/a-g-blog\/","title":{"rendered":"A &#8216;G&#8217; Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am supposed to be witty in this blog. \u00a0That&#8217;s not going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been G. this week, aka Grandma. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been to King Tut. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been to the Seattle Children&#8217;s Museum. \u00a0I&#8217;ve ridden the monorail. \u00a0I rode it for the first time in 1962 during the Fair. \u00a0We&#8217;ve read some Order of the Phoenix. \u00a0I&#8217;ve learned that when a seven year old is REALLY hungry, he can eat his weight in pancakes. \u00a0(I did not cook the pancakes. \u00a0We were in a restaurant.) \u00a0Last week we saw the Wizard of Oz. \u00a0I would be lying if I said it wasn&#8217;t fun.<\/p>\n<p>In the King Tut exhibit, I ponied up twelve bucks so we could have devices that would narrate the exhibit or, as Colt called them, &#8220;remotes&#8221; that came complete with three feet of cord apiece. \u00a0\u00a0Mine didn&#8217;t work from the get go. \u00a0\u00a0Maybe I just didn&#8217;t have the volume turned up. \u00a0Or maybe it was in the current electronics parlance &#8220;a brick.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The King Tut Exhibit works as follows. \u00a0They let people in, 50 at a time, whether the exhibit is ready or not. \u00a0We walked into the first room. \u00a0Colt slipped into the crowd and disappeared. \u00a0After a moment of grandmotherly panic, I found him. \u00a0Whew!!! \u00a0Then he wanted to see something. \u00a0He is short. \u00a0He needed to be in front. \u00a0I am tall. \u00a0I did NOT need to be in front. \u00a0Before we went into the next room, inspiration hit. \u00a0I used the two cords on the &#8220;remotes.&#8221; to tether them together. \u00a0Colt could go to the front of any crowd. \u00a0When he was ready to move on, I simply followed the string. \u00a0The guys who collected the &#8220;remotes&#8221; at the end of the exhibit were not amused when they had to untangle them, but working of not, I felt we had gotten our money&#8217;s worth.<\/p>\n<p>What this week has done for me is this: \u00a0It has given me an even more healthy respect for what Kindergarten and First Grade teachers do every day of every week with up to and including 30 kids. \u00a0It has given me an incredible respect for other grandparents, people my age, who have taken off the grandparent hats, put on the parent hats, and are raising their children&#8217;s children.<\/p>\n<p>And it has made me incredibly grateful for my children who are raising polite, well behaved, and well adjusted children.<\/p>\n<p>So color me happy to be a grandmother. \u00a0Next week I will return to being a writer.<\/p>\n<p>I promise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am supposed to be witty in this blog. \u00a0That&#8217;s not going to happen.
