{"id":1665,"date":"2018-09-07T06:00:31","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T13:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/?p=1665"},"modified":"2018-09-06T13:42:37","modified_gmt":"2018-09-06T20:42:37","slug":"a-friend-in-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/2018\/09\/07\/a-friend-in-need\/","title":{"rendered":"A Friend in Need"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been years since I\u2019ve been at home in Seattle in early September. \u00a0It\u2019s lovely. \u00a0The back yard is mostly still lush green with just bare tips of red starting to show up on the Japanese maples.<\/p>\n<p>I have to say it\u2019s very strange to be at home during on-sale week, but it was a good decision. \u00a0My shoulder isn\u2019t up to being out on the road. \u00a0I\u2019m getting a little more range of motion, but it seems to be one step forward and two steps back. \u00a0However, while I\u2019m here whining about my ailing shoulder, one of my good friends is looking down the barrel at a recurrence of breast cancer. \u00a0So quit your bitchin\u2019, Judy.<\/p>\n<p>I know that people come to my blog on Friday mornings for a little bit of sweetness and light, but I\u2019m just not feeling it today. \u00a0What I\u2019d really like to do is haul off and smack somebody, because this is SO unfair.<\/p>\n<p>My friend stood by her man, a Viet Nam vet, during the ten years he fought a losing battle with Agent Orange induced brain cancer. \u00a0She put her life and ambitions to one side, in favor of caring for him. \u00a0This should be her time now. \u00a0Instead, she\u2019s left to fight this fight on her own. \u00a0She has kids, but that\u2019s not the same as having a partner\u2014someone who has your back no matter what.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m pissed that the cancer-inhibiting drugs that have made her life miserable for the past year DIDN\u2019T DO THEIR JOB!!! \u00a0And I have no idea how she will decide to deal with this\u2014whether she\u2019ll dig in and fight tooth and nail or if she\u2019ll step away and opt for as much quality of life as there is out there. \u00a0Those are decisions she\u2019ll have to make with her kids, her doctors and her God\u2014because she is a woman of faith. \u00a0Has always been a woman of faith. \u00a0And if I were in her shoes, I have no idea how I\u2019d choose, either. \u00a0Not my business to say.<\/p>\n<p>But I\u2019ve been sitting here thinking about her today\u2014thoughts and prayers, as it were. \u00a0I know there are people who sneer at the very idea of &#8220;thoughts and prayers,&#8221; but I\u2019m not one of them. \u00a0And I know there are plenty of people among my readers who don\u2019t, either.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u2019m putting my friend\u2019s story out there today, so people can add her to their prayer lists. \u00a0Her name\u2019s Loretta, in case you\u2019re interested, but you didn\u2019t really need to have that information. \u00a0I\u2019m sure the Man Upstairs already knows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been years since I\u2019ve been at home in Seattle in early September. \u00a0It\u2019s lovely. \u00a0The back yard is mostly still lush green with just bare tips of red starting to show up on the Japanese maples.
