We\u2019re currently sailing through the Kiel Canal on our way to Denmark.\u00a0 The sea is calm; the sky overhead is overcast with bits of blue peeking through here and there.<\/p>\n
This is truly a vacation.\u00a0 No appearances; no talks; no signings.\u00a0 We\u2019ve strolled through Ghent; gotten lost in Amsterdam; and did a wonderful wine tasting in Bremen.\u00a0 Being lost in Amsterdam was great for steps.\u00a0 Going eight kilometers in the WRONG DIRECTION!!! meant that we were exceedingly grateful to take a taxi back to the ship, and we both ended up with well over our daily step quota.<\/p>\n
We are staying up late for the on-board shows and sleeping in before having breakfast delivered to our suite.\u00a0 In other words, this is just what the doctor ordered.\u00a0 And the fact that we\u2019re on the Silver Whisper, the same ship we sailed on for our ill-fated cruise four years ago, is a wonderful way of having things come full circle.<\/p>\n
Much has changed in the intervening years.\u00a0 The wifi connection is much better.\u00a0 On Sunday afternoon after the Formula 1 race in Monaco, we were able to stream the entire race on Bill\u2019s iPad.\u00a0 In the dining rooms, all orders are taken on iPad minis where, as soon as the server has our suite number, he or she also has our photos at the top of his or her screen.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve finished reading one book and am halfway through the next one.\u00a0 Since I was a girl, that\u2019s what I\u2019ve always done on vacations\u2014read\u2014for fun!!!\u00a0 And that\u2019s what I\u2019m doing this time, too.<\/p>\n
And now that I mentioned it?\u00a0 It\u2019s time to cut this blog short and go back to reading.\u00a0 As for sending photos?\u00a0 Don\u2019t hold your breath.\u00a0 After all, we know where we\u2019ve been.\u00a0 Besides, no photo could possibly replicate the soothing aroma of centuries of wooden barrels resting in the wine cellar of the Rathskeller in Bremen.<\/p>\n
