{"id":1153,"date":"2016-03-25T06:30:42","date_gmt":"2016-03-25T13:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/?p=1153"},"modified":"2016-03-24T20:09:04","modified_gmt":"2016-03-25T03:09:04","slug":"tales-from-the-clawback-trail-as-the-tour-winds-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/2016\/03\/25\/tales-from-the-clawback-trail-as-the-tour-winds-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Tales from the Clawback Trail; As the Tour Winds Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is late Thursday afternoon\u2014very late for me to be blogging. \u00a0I usually do that on Wednesday mornings, but being on tour is playing havoc with my usual schedule and also my usual steps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There were two events yesterday and two events today all of which have involved driving up and down I-5 in and around Seattle. \u00a0I have it on good authority that the Washington Department of Transportation has declared that there are NO traffic problems in Seattle. \u00a0I beg to differ. \u00a0I can\u2019t imagine how people who have to commute through those tie-up messes on a daily basis can keep from losing their minds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019ve gotten everywhere we needed to be on time, but it\u2019s been challenging, and sometimes our arrivals have been way closer to the event start times than they should have been. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While we\u2019ve been parked in traffic, I\u2019ve been in the passenger seat with the computer open on my lap, working on the corrections for <i>Downfall<\/i>\u2014the Joanna Brady due out in September. \u00a0I doubt I\u2019ll finish the last of the corrections today, but I\u2019m very close. \u00a0If I can have the manuscript in New York by Monday morning we\u2019ll ALL be happy campers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Followers of this blog, know that I do two book tours a year\u2014spring and late summer\u2014and people often wonder what I get out of it. \u00a0Having the opportunity to interact with my readers is a big draw for me. \u00a0I like making people laugh, and it\u2019s rewarding to have members of the audience come up to me after a program and say, \u201cI had no idea you\u2019d be so funny.\u201d \u00a0 I have my parents to thank for my \u201cfunny bone.\u201d \u00a0There was always joking and laughter in our family growing up, and I\u2019ve carried that laughter with me all my life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But there are also moments on the road that simply take my breath away. \u00a0Today included one of those moments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This afternoon, in Lacey, Washington, a man about my age stepped up to the table. \u00a0He had no book in hand to be signed when he stopped in front of me, but this is what he said, \u201cI came here to thank you for writing <i>Second Watch<\/i>. You got it right. \u00a0I cried all the way through it.\u201d \u00a0Then, after giving me a military salute, he shook my hand and walked away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I can tell you that he left my mascara in a complete mess, but you know what? \u00a0It just doesn\u2019t get any better than that.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is late Thursday afternoon\u2014very late for me to be blogging. \u00a0I usually do that on Wednesday mornings, but being on tour is playing havoc with my usual schedule and also my usual steps.
