{"id":1015,"date":"2015-09-11T06:00:57","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T13:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/?p=1015"},"modified":"2015-09-10T17:39:32","modified_gmt":"2015-09-11T00:39:32","slug":"tales-from-the-dotb-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jajance.com\/Blog\/2015\/09\/11\/tales-from-the-dotb-trail\/","title":{"rendered":"Tales From the DOTB Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Walker Family books have distinct four word titles which make them long to write out.\u00a0 Hence Dance of the Bones is now DOTB for blogging purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Book tours are planned by publicity folks in New York.\u00a0 I have two brand news publicists.\u00a0 I\u2019ve spoken to both of them on the phone but have yet to meet them.\u00a0 They sound young.\u00a0 Twenty-somethings or thirty-somethings at the outside.\u00a0 I turn 71 next month.\u00a0 So there\u2019s a tiny disconnect in terms of age and relative energy levels.<\/p>\n<p>They are in New York.\u00a0 From there?\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 Don\u2019t know.\u00a0 They are always perplexed by the fact that some things that seem, to them, to be so close by, are simply not doable.\u00a0 (Sun City and Mesa?\u00a0 They\u2019re both in Phoenix, aren\u2019t they?\u00a0 They\u2019re in the Phoenix AREA, but they\u2019re 50 miles apart.\u00a0 So maybe those events doable, but not for the faint of heart.\u00a0 Tuesday\u2019s opening day with three events, an interview, and a photo shoot was a corker!<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, there were only two events\u2014one in Poulsbo, WA, and the other in Des Moines, WA.\u00a0 If you Google those spots, the distances may not look that bad, but in order to be in Poulsbo for a noon signing, we had to leave the house in Bellevue at 8:45 and drive through rush hour traffic to catch a 9:30 ferry, do the event and the signing, and catch another ferry back to Seattle.\u00a0 We arrived at the ferry terminal at 3:00 PM and were due in Des Moines at 5.\u00a0 There was no point in going back home.\u00a0 Any\u00a0 delay in heading south would have put us in the midst of rush hour traffic, so we just drove to the venue.\u00a0 My plan was to get out and walk for a few minutes.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t.\u00a0 We parked in the shade, put our seats back, and took naps.\u00a0 Yesterday, for the first time in two and a half months, I didn\u2019t make my 10,000 steps.\u00a0 Nope, 2400 was the best I could do.<\/p>\n<p>When I needed some encouraging words, my daughter told me, \u201cMom, don\u2019t worry.\u00a0 You\u2019re taking steps to see your fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This morning I received a lovely note from a woman who said how much the presentation in Poulsbo meant to her.\u00a0 So taking those fan steps is worth it.<\/p>\n<p>Today it\u2019s Puyallup at noon (1 hour drive from here); fly to Spokane.\u00a0 (Arrive at the airport and hour and a half before a 4 PM flight.) Do the Aunties event at the Bing.\u00a0 Fly back after the event so I can be at an event in Redmond by 11:00 tomorrow morning.\u00a0 Then we\u2019re supposed to drive to Port Angeles for an evening event.\u00a0 But wait, is the Hood Canal Bridge still broken?\u00a0 It was yesterday.\u00a0 If it\u2019s still broken tomorrow, going to Port Angeles by way of Olympia will make for a very long trip.<\/p>\n<p>This is not whining.\u00a0 This is reporting.\u00a0 This is the reality how book tours are.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how many times people say, \u201cBook tours must be SO exciting!\u201d\u00a0 They are, but they are also draining and tiring.\u00a0 Drive, fly, eat, sleep, walk, and see the people.\u00a0 On day after another.\u00a0 For the better part of a month!<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s the deal.\u00a0 If any of my blog readers see me somewhere along the way in the next several weeks, please do not tell me that I look tired.\u00a0 I WILL be tired!\u00a0 And there\u2019s only so much makeup and lip gloss can do.<\/p>\n<p>Later \u2018gators.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Walker Family books have distinct four word titles which make them long to write out.\u00a0 Hence Dance of the Bones is now DOTB for blogging purposes.
