How Do I Know It’s Thanksgiving?

There’s nothing like pumpkin pies baking in the oven to say the day is almost upon us. In fact, although it’s still a day early, the dining room table is already set and awaiting the arrival of our guests. The turkey is brining out in the garage. The giblets are cooked. One year I cooked the giblets and Bill dumped the water and cleaned the pot in an effort to be helpful. That happened one time only.

There is much to be thankful for. I’m especially thankful that the wrong way driver who was trying to enter the freeway on the exit lane our daughter and grandson were using figured it out in time to prevent a disaster. Whew! And just for the record, if a wrong way driver is coming at you, stop!!! You’ll cut the force of the coming collision in half which will be better for all concerned, including the stupid drunk driving the wrong way. Also, it turns out that a stationary target is easier to miss. (That is my helpful hit for the day.)

I’m thankful that the deluge let up for a time this afternoon allowing the sun to come out long enough for the dogs and me to have some outside time. Somehow outside steps seem less of a hardship than inside steps.

So take time to smell the flowers and the pumpkin pies this weekend. Monday will be time enough to get back on the scale.

  1. Howdy
Hope your gathering was great!! Thinking you had a house hold full! How many?
Being with family, or with people who care is fun and wonderful. I had dinner and supper yesterday…very full but not over stuffed. We were at my son-in-laws sister’s . DeDe makes the same cornbread dressing as my Grandmother and mother did. She is so sweet and thoughtful to bake me some to take home with me. I will be on a cornbread high for the next several days.
Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless, Micki

  2. My special ed “independent living” class kids did the same giblet draining trick as your Bill. Thought he’d appreciate that.
We’ve decided here that it’s time for the next generation to step up to holiday entertaining. So far the message has landed on deaf ears. Guess that old “over the woods…to grandmother’s house we go” mentality is still in effect.

  3. What a frightening story about the wrong way driver! So glad tragedy was averted! I’m not sure I’d have the presence of mind to stop still in the face of a threat like that.

  4. No matter my mood, your newsie-letters make me smile. Thank you for that. Glad you had a good holiday. Glad your daughter &grandson are safe.
    Now, on to Merry Christmas.

  5. Wow! Wrong way drivers are very scary!
I just finished reading Proof of Life. I absolutely loved it. I’m a Seattle-Juanita native and the JP Beaumont books have always been wonderful but this one was almost impossible to put down (I did though because work wins in the end).
Thank you for the great read.

  6. I, like many others, so enjoy JP because the scenes are all so familiar. I feel like the ‘mouse in the pocket’ person, following him along. Thank you for all you to keep your readers happy.
Have a wonderful Christmas Season, and a Blessed New Years with good health!
